WMX( .WMX ) - File Extension Information

Windows Media Redirector (.wmx) files are Windows Media Metafiles that reference Windows Media Audio (.wma), Windows Media Video (.wmv) files, or both.

Windows Media Audio/Video Playlist metafiles are text files that provide information about a file stream and its presentation. Windows Media metafiles refer to other Windows Media files (files with the .wma, .wax, .wmv, .wvx, .asf, or .asx file name extension). You can use a metafile to list a group of media content files that you want to play in sequence, insert advertising or special interest clips into a presentation, or play clips one after the other with minimal buffering time or interruption between the clips. The metafiles contain instructions and references that a player, such as Windows Media Player, can use. When you click a link to a metafile, Windows Media Player downloads and opens the metafile, and then locates and streams the Windows Media file or files that the metafile refers to.

How to download/save/capture/record/rip Wmx audio stream

You can select one of the aboving products to record wnx audio stream. Here we give an example of Mini-stream Ripper.

1. Open Mini-stream ripper.
2. If you have downloaded the wmx file which you want to record, drag the file on Mini-stream Ripper(MSR)'s UI. MSR will load the stream automatically. Also you can click on the Load button on the left of MSR's screen to open the file Loading screen. Then click 'ok' to load the wnx file.
   
3. If you prefer to manually enter the wmx file's address directly into MSR, click on the Load button on the left of MSR's screen to open the URL Loading screen. In the "Open Location" box that opens, type in: "http://easylink.playstream.com/servicename/file.wmx". Then click 'ok', MSR will load the stream for you.
   
4. If you want to record the stream which Windows Media Player is playing, single right-click the "Now Playing List" file on the Windows Media Player interface. Choose "Properties", Copy "http://easylink.playstream.com/servicename/progressive/file.wmx?dl=true" in the Properties Box. Paste the address "http://easylink.playstream.com/servicename/progressive/file.wmx?dl=true" in the MSR's loading url box. Then click 'ok', MSR will load the stream for you.

1. If the stream has been sucessfully loaded, you'll get the message "Please press 'Start' to start ripping". If not, you'll get an error message.

1. Click on the Start button on the right of Mini-stream Ripper's screen to start ripping.
